Ever wish you could have more than 24 hours in a day? Ever look at someone else’s life and wonder how she is able to get so much more done?
If so, then it’s time to focus on the essentials in your life. Because the truth is that if we don’t have organized days, we won’t have an organized and intentional life.
Many of us have this nasty little habit where, as Chris Guilleabeau said, “We overestimate what we can accomplish in a day, but underestimate what we can accomplish in a year.”
Who wants to live like that? Who wants to live a meandering life, hoping we will reach goals at some point in our lives, but right now we are too busy to really make progress?
Well, let me tell you about Claire Diaz-Ortiz’s book, “Design Your Day: Be More Productive, Set Better Goals and Live Life on Purpose.” It’s a quick, but life-changing read. In the first part of the book, she challenges you to DECIDE what’s important in your life. In part two, you ORGANIZE your life so you can focus on what is essential.
In the first exercise of the book, she asks her readers to pick a WORD OF THE YEAR. This word is basically a focal point for the year or a filter as you make decisions, both big picture and small.
I’ve never really had a WORD OF THE YEAR. I wanted to have a sort of lens to see my time, energy and financial decisions, and to use it to refer to when matters need clarity. So, I’ve finally decided. My word of the year is:
SUSTAINABLE
Exciting, huh?
Maybe not, but let me give you a more complete picture. I REALLY like to BE CREATIVE. It’s what I believe I’m really gifted at and it fuels my soul. However, often that gift can actually turn into chaos if it is not properly guided towards a goal. I often get distracted and pulled in a ton of different directions and don’t actually end up having the greatest impact.
And so, I’m looking at sustainability in every area of my life:
– my schedule
– my relationships
– my finances
By having this word of the year to focus on, I can filter everything I do, each day, through that lens because I don’t want to live a life that sort of hopes it will leave this world a better place. I want to INTENTIONALLY KNOW that I’ve actually hit my important goals because as Yogi Berra said, “If you don’t know where you are going, you’ll end up someplace else.”
Take a minute to consider where you are headed in life. What are your goals? How can you dream bigger? How can you design your day and your life?
Maybe part of your goal is to focus on personal development or help other people improve their lives. Maybe you want to improve your finances and earn some extra income. If so, then perhaps becoming a Beachbody Coach should be one of your next goals. I want to invite YOU to consider coaching. Simply fill out the form below and I’ll be in touch very soon.
