Don’t Get Fat on Your Vacation

by

Vacations are great, right? The sun, the fun, the food…can it get much better? It could get even better if we could find a way to stop vacation from sabotaging our health and fitness goals.

Travel can really derail your health goals. It can be so frustrating when we’ve been making progress, but then we hit vacation and it all goes out the window. We pig out. We don’t care. We lose traction and then we come home with a few more pounds than what we left with.

Don't Get Fat on Your Vacation

The good news is that there is a way to set boundaries and keep your health and fitness goals in mind even when traveling…and you can still fully enjoy your vacation, while you’re at it.

Here are 3 ways to not sabotage your fitness goals, while on vacation:

Look at your portion sizes.

We eat out (A LOT) on vacation. Restaurants are infamous for making huge portion sizes, doubling, tripling and even quadrupling portions. Even if you are eating the right things, when your portions are out of whack, you are still consuming too many calories.

The 21-Day Fix containers are a great visual for proper portions. Take a look at the graphic for details and keep that visual in mind, so you have a better idea of how many calories you are eating.

Avoid the sauces.

Restaurants know what we like and they load up their food with extra salt, fat and sugars to entice our tastebuds. Dressings, and especially white sauces, are laden with fat. You may think the salad is a good choice, but then you slam on the Caesar dressing and you completely blow it because you throw so much saturated fat at your body. Ask for the sauce on the side and use a little bit of it, so that you are in control of your portions.

Hydrate!

When we travel, we are on the go and not as in control of our location, so we are often dehydrated. When we aren’t properly hydrated, we aren’t processing the food as well because we don’t have the hydration to flush out the fat and other toxins. So stay hydrated, even when you are on the go. The general rule is to drink a minimum of 64 ounces of water a day.

You can have a great vacation, while maintaining your goals, so that next time you come home with some souvenirs, but not a few extra pounds.

But how about getting your body ready for vacation? I’d like to invite you to my next online fitness group: 21- Day Vacation Ready Challenge that starts Monday, June 6th.
