“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT)
As a teenager I had the chance to visit the cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. I saw how the craftsmen/artisans who created it seem to have held nothing back in honoring God with what they made. I know if I had traveled all that way only to find that vandals had come along and defaced the building, broken the stain glass, and graffitied the walls. Or worse yet, from years of lack of upkeep, I would have been sad to see the roof caving in or plaster coming down.
I use this example to make the following statement:
I HAVE DECIDED TO HONOR GOD WITH MY BODY.
This is an INTEGRITY issue for me – my Ultimate WHY . It’s why I try not to act like a child who sneaks a cookie from the cookie jar. Or skip my workout if I don’t feel like it. If you are still looking around to see if someone is watching you, then I would encourage you to DIG DEEPER into your WHY. I have chosen to dig as deep as it goes, and I think my best WHY is simply this – honor God.
It’s pretty simple – start with what you put IN your body. The builders of Notre Dame used the most enduring materials to create the building. In the same way, we can choose quick, cheap and convenient, or we can choose to eat what is actually beneficial to truly FEED our bodies rather than just FILL them. Every choice has spiritual ramifications. Making the choice to do EVERYTHING for the glory of God is the best one we can make.
